We enjoyed going to our first music class of the year this week. A retired music teacher from the district will be coming once a month to do a lesson with the children on rhythms and music. We had fun using our different voices to talk and sing (whisper, regular voice, and calling voice).

We have been having fun learning color words and working on identifying colors through playing color games in our class. We have sorted colors, played the game "Where's the bear" by guessing which colored bowl it was hiding under, and used tongs to fill bottles with colored pom pom balls as we named the colors. I hope everyone is taking time to practice colors at home while reading your child's Brown Bear Brown Bear book they brought home on Friday. Next week we will continue to explore colors through games, songs, and books.
We have been busy in our classroom learning about the routines and expectations of school. We have learned two I Love You Rituals (Twinkle Twinkle and Row Row Row), we are learning to take responsibility for our classroom jobs, and best of all we are having a good time playing with our new friends and teachers. This week we began introducing breathing techniques we will use in the classroom when big feelings arise and we need to take a minute to work through them in an appropriate way. The breathing techniques are a part of the Conscious Discipline strategies that are used throughout the whole school. Ask your child to show you how to do each one.
